Help Is Available When Your Child and You Need It Most
I have numerous years' experience helping children cope with, and overcome, a variety of childhood issues such as: depression, attention deficit and disruptive behavior disorders, oppositional defiant disorder, autistic spectrum disorders, Asperger's syndrome, post-traumatic stress, reactive attachment disorder, and learning disorders.
By providing children a safe and secure space, and using a variety of therapeutic modalities – such as crisis counseling, play therapy, sand tray therapy, and art therapy – I help children learn to acknowledge and express their feelings in healthy ways and move forward in life with optimism and self-confidence.
I also assist parents by providing parents:
- Parenting skills and techniques
- Parenting classes
- Positive behavior management for kids
- Behavioral modification training for children in school and at home
- Program-wide consultations with school administrators, teachers, special educators, etc.
I have conducted the following group trainings and workshops for children and parents:
- Social Skills Training
- Anger Management
- Problem Resolution
- Divorce Workshop

Social Skills Groups for Children
Social skills determine how children interact and express their feelings with others. As such, children with social skills and self-expression issues often benefit from coaching and guidance in a social setting. This not only allows children to learn the necessary skills, but put them into practice in real-world situations. With direct guidance and practice in a small group, children can learn to express themselves appropriately and improve their behavior in any social setting.
- Does your child complain of not having any friends?
- Does your child appear to be shy or fearful with other children?
- Is your child comfortable making new friends?
- Does it seem your child has poor listening skills?
- Does your child have difficulty recognizing non-verbal cues such as body language, facial expressions, and personal space?
- Do you ever hear your child complain, "Nobody likes me!"?
- Does your child exhibit difficulty solving problems?
- Does your child express anger in inappropriate ways?
- Does your child have a difficult time resolving conflict with others?
If your answer to one or more of the above is "Yes"
YOUR CHILD CAN BENEFIT FROM A SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP!
Social skills groups help children learn new, positive, and appropriate behaviors in a social setting, and then practice what they've learned in real-life situations. After an initial consultation and evaluation, your child can be placed in a small group with two, three, or four other children. Groups meet for 12 weekly one-hour sessions.
Children's social skills groups meet in San Jose.

Support Group for Children of Divorce
This support group is designed specifically to help children explore every-day life issues and concerns regarding the divorce of their parents. The group offers children support and assistance in meeting the challenges of divorce. It is a place for children who are being affected by divorce to decrease isolation, reduce anxiety, promote healthy self-assertion, and deal with changing feelings, depression, self-esteem, and other issues.
In a safe environment, children who attend this support group will learn:
- How to survive and thrive through their parents' divorce process
- To understand divorce better – that it is a "grown-up" problem and not their doing
- How to cope with their feelings about divorce
- How to express feelings of sadness
- How to resolve anger issues
- How to overcome fears and feelings of helplessness
- How to not feel guilty or responsible for their parents' problems
- Not to blame themselves for the divorce
This group meets in San Jose once per week.
As a prerequisite, parents will be interviewed prior to their children joining the group.
